Our Mission and Profile
< Organizational Identity:
The Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) comprises
the libraries serving the accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools
belonging to or affiliated with the Association of American Medical
Colleges. It includes other related libraries and organizations that
lead in resolving information and knowledge management problems in the
health care environment.
< Mission:
AAHSL enhances the success of its members in advancing health through
their recognized leadership in managing and utilizing the intellectual
resources within and beyond the institution.
< Vision:
As the premier association defining the future of academic health sciences
libraries, AAHSL stimulates continuous learning and the development
of its members and their services.
< Objectives:
AAHSL promotes the advancement of knowledge management, furthers the
effectiveness and value of educational and other library services, and
adds to the research base of the profession.
The Association influences legislation and policies beneficial to the
common good of academic health sciences centers and their libraries.
AAHSL offers leadership programs that allow current and future directors
to envision and implement innovative solutions to the challenges inherent
in connecting users to information and knowledge.
AAHSL members gain recognition for maximizing the benefits of institutional
investments as well as sustaining the overall success of the academic
health sciences center over time.
AAHSL members share information, expertise, and other resources in
an environment of professional collaboration.
