Purpose
AAHSL seeks to improve the role of academic health sciences librarians and information
professionals in the United States and Canada by assessing, advancing,
strengthening, leading and reframing health sciences libraries in patient
care, research and teaching. This purpose requires vigorous leadership
that enhance and mobilizes the influence, resources and intellectual
capital of academic health science libraries toward a goal of improving
health care.
The leaders of our member institutions are guided by the association's
core values and our vision to improve our academic health sciences libraries.
They are responsible for maximizing institutional investments and sustaining
the success of academic health sciences libraries while promoting and
supporting the highest quality in education, patient care and research.
For almost 30 years, the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries has guided, supported and served these leaders. As they look to the future, they need an organization that embraces and supports their vision and common evolving needs.
As an organization, AAHSL advances knowledge and research in information management, promotes the shaping and reframing of health information policy, strengthens communication among members and with external agencies and fosters collaboration and networking, serves the library profession, provides support for leadership development and recognition, and assesses and measures library performance.
