The University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Health Sciences Library.

The Ebling Library has a current total staff of sixteen and annual budget of approximately $3.3 million with more than half of that budget allocated to collections.  The energetic, high-performing team of library staff provide outstanding services. 

In addition to the SMPH, the Ebling Library directly supports the Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy, UW Health, and various departments such as occupational therapy, kinesiology and others. The Ebling Library, along with the Law Library, is independent of, but works collaboratively with, the general library system of the campus.  The Health Sciences Libraries advance the teaching and research mission with holdings that exceed 400,000 print volumes and 20,000 ejournals.      

We seek a proven leader with outstanding leadership of a high performing team of librarians and university staff.  In addition, excellent administrative skills, ability to foster and maintain effective partnerships, capacity to thrive in an environment of change, ability to meet strict deadlines, and knowledge of technology applications and trends are of key importance.   

The successful candidate will have a compelling vision for the future of academic health center libraries.  Candidates must have a Master’s degree in library or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an advanced degree in a health-related field or equivalent.  In addition, the candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior leadership or progressive administrative role in an academic library, experience in identifying and securing external funding, broad knowledge of library services and operations, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
