Future Leadership Committee
The Future Leadership Committee is pleased to announce the members of
the 2007-2008 class of the NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program. We had
an extraordinary group of applicants for fellow and directors who volunteered
to serve as mentors. The selection process continues to be very competitive
due to the high quality of the fellow candidates. Selection is recognition
of a substantial record of accomplishment and demonstrable potential for
a director position.
The matches with mentors were made primarily on the expressed interests
of fellows for the program with the mentor statements and the ability
to provide exposure to different types of environments. We appreciated
the willingness of former mentors to serve in that role again. The enthusiastic
support of AAHSL directors is essential to the program's success.
The 2007-2008 participants will meet for the first time November 2
at the AAMC meeting in Washington, DC. We invite you to meet the fellows
during the meeting and to congratulate them on their selection.
Meanwhile, the 2006-2007 class concludes its program year with their
Capstone event and graduation in Washington October 30 - November 1.
The NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program to prepare emerging leaders
for director positions in academic health sciences libraries is jointly
funded by NLM and AAHSL. It is beginning its sixth year. Information
about the program is available at http://aahsl.org/Applications_Awards_Scholarships

New Website
As everyone can see, AAHSL is pleased to present a new website for
the benefit of members and visitors. The new design and content organization
is the result of careful planning and listening to member needs. The
design was announced in July 2007. Members who provided feedback on
the preliminary design endorsed it and recommended going forward. Besides
layout and 'look and feel', most members wanted better content organization.
The new design emphasizes a layout that identifies all significant AAHSL
documentation, publications, and services to be available from the home
page. However, improvements can always be made.
The website will continue to develop in the months ahead. The primary
addition will be easy access to the association's Archives, which will
be all electronic and part of an experiment in institutional repositories
as promoted by the Charting the Future Committee. The Archives will
be located at the University of Kansas, and their support is gratefully
acknowledged. Other web technologies will be explored and added to the
website in the future.
Before formal evaluation takes place, members and visitors can comment
on changes to the website by sending email to j-shedlock@northwestern.edu.
