Geisinger is seeking a dynamic and innovative Associate Dean and Library Director to unite the Geisinger Commonwealth Medical School Library and the Libraries within the Geisinger hospitals into one library system. This is a new position at Geisinger and it will report to the Dean of the School of Medicine.  The Associate Dean will have a unique opportunity to build and develop this new integrated library.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The fundamental task for the new Associate Dean and Library Director will be to create, in concert with the Geisinger administration and library staff, one health sciences library system that will serve all the Geisinger facilities.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a strong, resourceful leader with a record of accomplishment working in a highly complex healthcare organization, and will have knowledge and understanding of the library’s role in both clinical and academic settings. A Master’s degree in library/information science is required (advanced degree in health sciences or related areas is desired, Ph.D preferred) with at least 10-15 years of broad-based management experience in an academic health sciences or clinical library setting.

About Geisinger:

Geisinger is an integrated health services organization widely recognized for its development of innovative care delivery models. As one of the nation’s largest health service organizations, Geisinger serves more than three million residents throughout 45 counties in central, south-central, and northeast Pennsylvania, and in southern New Jersey. The physician-led system is comprised of approximately 30,000 employees, including nearly 1,600 employed physicians, 12 hospital campuses, two research centers, and a 551,000-member health plan, all of which leverage an estimated $10.5 billion positive impact on the Pennsylvania and New Jersey economies. Geisinger has repeatedly received national attention for integration, quality, and service. In addition to fulfilling its patient care mission, Geisinger has a long-standing commitment to medical education, research, and community service.

In 2017, The Commonwealth Medical College became the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM), the newest member of the Geisinger system. The merger integrated aspects of the health system, such as residency training programs, and also introduced new Master's programs to increase opportunities for students. GCSOM currently enrolls 525 students and offers a community-based model of medical education on four regional campuses. As a result of the merger, educational services report through the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, with the libraries falling under this reporting line.
