AAHSL 4th Friday eSalon
February 28, 2025 | 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST

Come Connect and Collaborate at the AAHSL 4th Friday eSalon

Join us at the monthly eSalon! These director-only casual, unstructured discussions will have a general topic each month for attendees to share, brainstorm, and learn from each other. The topics will be geared to the unique needs of those in academic health sciences library leadership and facilitated by AAHSL members. Attendance is optional, free, and open to all AASHL directors.

February 2025 Topic: Providing Professional References: How to approach being a reference when the feedback isn’t always positive

Facilitator: Stephanie Kerns, MLS, Associate Dean for Health Sciences and Biomedical Libraries, Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine

Description: As library leaders, we are often asked to provide professional references. Oftentimes the information you have to give is positive. Other times, it is not. How do you approach a situation when an individual asks you to be a reference, if you can’t provide a good one? Or you are required to be a professional reference due to a policy of the hiring institution, e.g., the current manager must be included in the reference check process? Come to our monthly eSalon on Friday, February 28, to talk about how you approach being a professional reference, particularly when it’s unclear how you’ll be able to support an individual in their job search.
